Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs Chairman Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) will hold a hearing titled “Strengthening the Fleet: Challenges and Solutions in Naval Surface Ship Construction.” The subcommittee hearing will examine overall U.S. shipbuilding capacity and projects that have cost taxpayers billions and failed to perform their intended mission.

“According to senior leadership within the Navy, China currently has a massive advantage on the United States operationally when it comes to shipbuilding. Given the astronomical amount of U.S. taxpayer funding put towards this effort, that is unacceptable. We must make assurances to the American people on three fronts: that we are competing on par with China and other foreign adversaries when it comes to the production of ships; that taxpayer dollars put towards shipbuilding projects are being used efficiently and without waste; and that materials and qualified workers critical to this effort are readily available,” said Subcommittee Chairman Grothman.
